On February 25, Schaeffler announced that its steering ball screws for automotive steering systems have officially entered production at the Xiangtan manufacturing base.
It is reported that Schaeffler’s steering ball screws are core mechanical components of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, providing vehicles with outstanding steering control, safety, and comfort.
The launch of this production line not only further enhances Schaeffler's ball screw production layout in China but also lays a solid foundation for driving business growth and better responding to local customer needs. Schaeffler has nearly 20 years of mass production application experience in the field of ball screws, having started production of steering ball screws as early as 2007.
Over the years, the application areas of Schaeffler ball screws have continued to expand. To date, more than 100 million units have been produced globally, not only for automotive steering systems but also for braking systems, engines, and transmissions. Additionally, since 2015, Schaeffler has been producing ball screws for braking systems at its Taicang site, with cumulative production surpassing 50 million units so far.
According to official statements, based on Schaeffler’s extensive knowledge and technological accumulation in mechatronics and drive-by-wire systems, the company continuously expands its product range into more complex system domains. Besides high-precision mechanical components, Schaeffler has also developed and put into production electro-hydraulic power steering systems (e2HPS) for commercial vehicles and mechatronic rear-wheel steering systems (RWS). Moreover, Schaeffler is accelerating the mass production process of steer-by-wire system components and complete systems.
