Nippon Seiko Kabushiki Kaisha (NSK) has launched a revolutionary "High Reliability Spherical Roller Bearing for Wind Turbine Main Shafts," integrating three advanced technologies: "Super-TF" material, DLC coating, and a new high-load capacity cage (ECA type). This is the first time NSK has combined all three in one product.
Typically, spherical roller bearings in wind turbine main shafts fail due to raceway wear. NSK’s new bearing reduces this wear to less than one-tenth of standard products, significantly extending lifespan and reducing maintenance needs and downtime. This enhances the operational stability of wind power equipment.
The first two technologies have already received positive market feedback. In June 2024, NSK introduced the third technology and secured an order from a North American wind power company. NSK now has a comprehensive sales system supporting these integrated products.
Looking forward, NSK plans to combine this new bearing with condition monitoring solutions to offer more efficient technical services. According to NSK’s "MTP 2026 Mid-term Management Plan," the company aims to increase its aftermarket business sales by 25 billion yen compared to 2021 levels.
Key features:
Super-TF Material: Enhances surface hardness through fine carbide distribution.
DLC Coating: Improves roller surface abrasion resistance.
ECA-Type Cage: Optimizes internal structure, increasing roller size and quantity for better load capacity and wear resistance.
These enhancements boost durability and reliability, especially under harsh conditions, and help prevent early damage. For wind turbines located in remote or offshore areas, where component replacement is costly and time-consuming, this product significantly reduces maintenance costs and extends equipment uptime.
